President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi issued Decree No. 161 of 2026 to restructure the Board of Directors of the State Information Service (SIS) for the remainder of its current term, appointing Ambassador Alaa Youssef as Chairman, succeeding journalist Diaa Rashwan, in a move reflecting a drive to strengthen Egypt’s international media presence and recalibrate its global communication strategy.
Ambassador Alaa Youssef brings more than three decades of diplomatic experience, A graduate of the Faculty of Economics and Political Science at Cairo University, he has served in several Egyptian missions abroad, most notably in Geneva, Paris, and Beirut
He also served as the official spokesperson for the Egyptian Presidency from 2014 to 2017, before taking up his post as Egypt’s Ambassador to France and Permanent Delegate to UNESCO until 2026, reinforcing his capacity to lead the agency at a time requiring a balanced and effective international narrative
